Dorman Products, a $1B global supplier of aftermarket automotive parts, is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer I to join our growing team! This is a hands-on engineering position primarily responsible for supporting electronics and mechanical product launches. Additional responsibilities include design of fixturing and tooling, process design, and process improvements, to meet product and manufacturing requirements. Primary Duties

  • Design and implement tooling and fixtures for new and existing processes.
  • Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Create and maintain process documentation for new and existing processes. 
  • Reverse engineering of components to meet product specifications.
  • Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests.
  • Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, material costs, and capacity analysis.
  • Initiate and coordinate activities with purchasing, quality, and commercial departments.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related duties that may be outside of assigned priorities.

 

Qualifications / Education / Experience

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or related technical field or Associates degree in a related technical field with 3+ years of experience.Reverse engineering or product development experience.
  • Experience with tooling and fixture design using 2D and 3D CAD Software (Solidworks).
  • Knowledge and experience with Manufacturing Methods, Machining Operations, and automation equipment.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and/or IATF16949 Quality Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of automotive mechanical and electrical systems and diagnostics.
  • Technical documentation skills.
  • Electrical troubleshooting and repair.
  • Experienced with the use of power supplies, signal generators, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Experience in cross-functional team.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Access.
