Job Summary
The Senior Safety Specialist is a safety professional that reviews, evaluates, and analyzes work environments and designs programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury. The Safety Manager organizes and administers approved site safety programs and plans. The Senior Safety Specialist is also responsible for site level compliance with OSHA polocies and procedures and other regulatory standards.
Primary Duties
- Manage a safe work environment that ensures compliance to regulations and meets facility safety goals.
- Maintain and oversee training of all written regulatory compliance programs as needed and annually.
- Serve as approving authority in Incident Investigation, Root Cause Analysis, and Corrective Actions.
- Participate in development of site-specific Safety Plans to include compliance with OSHA policies and procedures, and other regulatory standards.
- Reports to and coordinates with Safety Manager about questions and issues regarding safety policy and its implementation.
- Oversee on-site Hazard/Risk-Assessments and safety audits and inspections.
- Responsible for administrating training regarding company-specific and regulatory safety requirements.
- Support maintenance of all compliance and training documentation into corporate EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) systems for proper document control.
- Responsible for collaborating with Safety Manager on organizational wide initiatives.
- Proactively involved in ensuring that proper practices are observed in the workplace.
- Maintain liaisons with outside organizations such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams, so that emergency responses can be facilitated.
- Supports installation of all safety devices on machinery, or direct device installation.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Previous experience with Job Safety Analysis and Ergonomics.
- Familiarity of OSHA, EPA, and NIOSH rules and regulations.
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to work with contributors at all levels of management.
- Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.
- Must be willing to travel 10% of the time
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; bend; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach, push, pull and lift with hands and arms.
- Physical Requirement: Capability to lift 20 pounds.
- Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach, swivel, carry items from one building to another, and speak and actively listen. The noise level is usually moderate.
Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Safety or comparable preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a safety related professional and/or in a Manufacturing role.
- Previous experience with Job Safety Analysis and Ergonomics.
