Senior Material Planning Specialist

As a Sr. Material Planning Specialist for Dorman Products, you will be responsible for efficiently managing the supply plan for strategic categories to Dorman’s business to deliver the best inventory turns while maintaining a high level of customer service.  This position represents the crucial communication link between customer service, suppliers and operations, and requires a high level of analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills. The ideal candidate must have a strong sense of urgency, proven organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

 

Primary Duties:

  • Perform fill rate root cause analysis for historical and projected customer fill rates. Organize and communicate the information to the Business units and customer solutions group appropriately.

  • Lead and facilitate weekly fill rate meetings with the Business Units.

  • Provide category service outlooks and create action plans around how to improve performance.

  • Identify potential supply risks and create action plans to mitigate and address the issues

  • Perform project management duties and preparations required to support retail customer rollouts. Ensure availability of supply to meet customer needs.

  • Perform capacity assessments for key vendors and work with procurement to address gaps in which vendor cannot achieve demand levels.

  • Execute and support initiatives that impact cross-functional team goals such as profitability, sales growth, E&O reduction and inventory optimization.

  • Validate requirements and issue purchase orders weekly for all required products to achieve inventory targets & customer service levels.

  • Action weekly generated exceptions messages to expedite, and de-expedite products to optimize inventory and achieve desired serve levels.

  • Ensure all delivery dates in the ERP system are correct.

  • Use available replenishment methods to optimize inventory investments and ensure the excess, slow moving, and obsolete inventory. 

  • Resolve problems and discrepancies with quality, delivery dates, quantity, and invoicing for assigned products

  • Analyze excess and obsolete inventory and implement strategies to reduce and prevent slow moving inventory

  • Train/mentor newer Material Planners

  • Actively pursue and engage in projects and processes improvement opportunities

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and oral communications skills - including executive presentation skills

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated competency with cross-functional engagement and collaboration

  • Proven analytical, problem solving, and decision- making skills

  • Proficient computer skills – particularly Microsoft Office applications

  • ERP/MRP – SAP

  • Physical Requirement: Capability to lift 20 pounds.

  • Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach, swivel, carry items from one building to another, and speak and actively listen. Noise level is usually moderate.

 

Education And/Or Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with concentration in one or more of the following disciplines: Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Business.

  • APICS – CPIM certification is preferred

  • 3+ years’ experience as a supply chain professional
