Job Summary
Dorman is seeking a Product Engineer (Mechanical Engineer) to join our growing team. As a Product Engineer for Dorman, you will implement and coordinate various engineering projects that will support the development and improvement of our products, as directed by the Engineering Manager. This includes the measurement, evaluation, and documentation of product characteristics with respect to function, reliability, and quality. This is a hybrid role in our corporate headquarters in suburban Philadelphia (Colmar, PA) Monday through Thursday with the ability to work remotely on Friday.
Primary Duties
- Develop automotive components ensuring compatibility with original equipment and industry standard specifications.
- Reverse engineer or improve upon designs leveraging 3D scanning, CMM data, functional benchmarking, and material analysis.
- Determine project documentation and validation requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
- Utilize AIAG standards for production approval such as: PPAP, DFMEA, DRD, DVP, etc.
- Create, review, and revise engineering drawings, technician installation guides, and warehouse inspection instructions.
- Inspect first article samples and review supplier documentation to determine if design meets functional, reliability, and quality requirements.
- Communicate with global suppliers on design and manufacturing to maintain quality control throughout the production process.
- Collaborate with cross functional departments such as product, supply chain, and quality to ensure successful product launches.
Qualifications
- Reverse Engineering or Product Development experience
- Understanding of SolidWorks or other CAD software
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint
- Understanding of manufacturing capabilities, i.e. machining, stamping, casting, injection molding and electronics assembly
- Experience in cross-functional teams
- Knowledge of GD&T drafting techniques preferred
- Basic knowledge of automotive mechanical and electrical systems preferred
- Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach, swivel, carry items from one location to another, and speak and actively listen. Noise level is usually moderate.
Education / Experience
- Technical degree (BS) in mechanical engineering with 3+ years of experience; or
- Associate degree with 5+ years of experience

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $75,000.00 to $109,200.00. This role is also eligible for a bonus. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will depend on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal pay equity. Compensation decisions are made based on the specific facts and circumstances of each role and candidate.
