Dorman is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team to our Original Equipment Strategic Business Unit (OE SBU). As a Mechanical Engineer on our OE team, you will implement and coordinate engineering projects that will support the development and improvement of products intended for OEMs and their Tier 1 suppliers, as directed by the Engineering Manager. We are seeking engineers who can think outside the box and use creative methods to solve problems and develop new solutions. Primary Duties

  • Work with product managers, sales, and supply chain to aid in the development of product utilizing engineering best practices.
  • Produce documentation that sufficiently identifies dimensional and performance requirements.
  • Direct, coordinate, or fabricate prototype samples and test equipment builds.
  • Confer with the product team to prepare and implement design modifications and manage changes.
  • Manage the requirements for PPAP and review accompanying documentation. Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional, reliability and quality requirements. Present PPAPs to customer for their signoff.
  • Interpret process certifications and flow charts to identify process weaknesses and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Create and maintain the requirements for continual quality compliance inspections.
  • Evaluate product warranty information, root cause quality concerns, and implement design/process improvements.
  • Communicate directly with Customer Engineering, Product, and Supply Chain personnel for development needs, project timing updates, and approvals.



  • Reverse engineering or product development experience
  • Design and Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA, PFMEA)
  • Thorough knowledge of SolidWorks or other CAD software
  • Thorough knowledge of GD&T drafting techniques
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Access
  • Knowledge of EPDM or other PDM software
  • Understanding of manufacturing capabilities; i.e. machining, stamping, casting, injection molding, electronics assembly
  • Basic knowledge of automotive mechanical & electrical systems
  • Experience in cross-functional team


Education and/or Experience

  • Technical degree (BS) in mechanical engineering with 3+ years of experience; or
  • Associate degree with 5+ years of experience
