Dorman Products, a $1B global supplier of aftermarket automotive parts, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III to join our growing team! As a Manufacturing Engineer III for Dorman, you will coordinate and directs manufacturing engineering projects and lean manufacturing activities at our eight manufacturing sites.

 

Primary Duties:

  • Develops and implements cost effective and improved processes for Lean production and tooling methodologies.
  • Creates and maintains process documentation for existing and new processes.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, layout and equipment. Understands and eliminates waste in production processes.
  • Evaluates and develops manufacturing processes by designing and conducting improvement trials; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
  • Experience identifying automation projects for capacity and efficiency improvements in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Plans and schedules administrative and operations related kaizen events.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Uses Lean techniques to perform process reviews; aids in establishing standardized work procedures.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software
  • 4+ years of experience in a hands-on automation/controls environment
  • 3+ years of experience debugging Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Human/Machine Interfaces (HMI)
  • Experience with tool and fixture design
  • Understanding of GD&T
  • Well versed in pneumatic, electrical and multiple controls systems
  • Aptitude to read drawings (blueprints and schematics), reference manuals & assembly system instruction guides
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical panels and mechanical mechanisms
  • Experience in a cross-functional team
  • Ability to travel up to 50%

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Technical degree (BS) in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial engineering with 7+ years of experience
  • Lean Manufacturing experience
  • Advanced degree is a plus (MSME, MSIE)
