International Logistics Manager

Dorman Products is seeking an International Logistics Manager to join our growing Logistics team. This position will provide strategic and operational support to the International Logistics organization, facilitating the flow of product from overseas to the US. This individual will develop strong relationships with key internal (supply chain, trade compliance, finance) and external (freight forwarders, ocean and air carriers, NVOs) trade partners to support the efficient flow of goods to Dorman Products DCs.  This position includes managing both the day-to-day standard allocation and exceptions, making decisions as required to balance the cost, lead time and service requirements.  Must be able to perform and respond in an extremely fast paced, flexible, team-oriented, and collaborative environment. 


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day international operations and Logistics Trade Partners with a focus on supplier and origin activities, including managing freight forwarders, ocean providers and air freight carriers. Communicate with foreign based Dorman offices, Suppliers and forwarders to ensure timely bookings.
  • Lead or support the development of Logistics Trade Partner dashboards and carrier management activities, monitoring Trade Partner performance (volume, booking timeliness, transit time, route guide effectiveness, volume forecasting, allocation, cost, service) and ensuring accountability of Trade Partners through regular business reviews.
  • Maintain open dialogue with other functional business (e.g. Supply Chain, Domestic Operations, Trade Compliance) to coordinate activities and improve end to end supply chain visibility, performance and productivity.
  • Identify and onboard new Trade Partners (ocean, non-vessel operators, freight forwarders) and lead the ocean freight contracting process.
  • Work with Trade Partners in pursuit of continuous process improvement, enhancing reporting, visibility, data integrity and standard operating processes.  Create / maintain policies or procedures for logistics activities as needed or required
  • Stay abreast of market conditions (ocean freight, domestic drayage/trucking, international airfreight) and best practices to develop and execute strategies to flow product in the most economical manner.
  • Understand and manage the trade-offs between costs, service and inventory associated with various flow paths (transload, overseas consolidation, North American ports of entry, port to port/port to door etc.). Create the strategy for importing product throughout the Dorman supply chain network, considering service requirements, cost models, flow path optimization tools, customs and compliance, and replenishment needs


Qualifications / Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with concentration in one or more of the following disciplines: Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Business.
  • Minimum 3-5 years international Logistics experience as a business professional or military officer.
  • Understanding of International Logistics capabilities. Experience working with NVOs, ocean carriers, drayage companies, freight forwarders and customs house brokerage firms.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite - Advanced Excel Skills necessary. 
  • Proficiency within ERP and data visualization software.  SAP ECC and Qlik/Tableau a plus.
  • Ability to manage and analyze large volumes of data. 
  • Must be a data driven decision maker.
  • Must be detail oriented, highly organized, resourceful, and work well within a team environment.
