Dorman Products, a $1B global supplier of aftermarket automotive parts, is seeking an Engineering Services Director to join our growing team!  This Director will lead the Engineering Services Department in the successful contribution to the new product development process by coaching and mentoring the design and validation initiatives using industry best practices of reverse engineering, product testing and problem-solving techniques. The Engineering Services Director will be an ambassador for the company representing both Engineering and Quality to internal and external customers and must be able to promote the overall value and Dorman culture.


Primary Duties

  • Identify and implement new and emerging technologies, equipment, and competencies required to be best in class.
  • Develop and support process improvements with an emphasis on speed to market and a Lean mindset.
  • Responsible for managing projects cross functionally between Mechanical Design, Test Development, and Engineering Testing Lab teams.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Product on company initiatives with alignment from department VP.
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company.  Builds a great working environment for the contributors.  Attracts, develops, retains, and motivates the talent needed to be a world class, high performing team.
  • Challenges the status quo, proven track record of driving change and teaching/motivating individuals to develop & implement new ways of thinking and doing business.
  • Identify, justify, propose, and implement capital equipment needs necessary to support new product development growth goals and industry best practices.
  • Responsible for oversight and maintenance of department budget.



  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required that demonstrate the ability to express technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Advanced product design / 3D modeling ability and drafting skills, including the ability to read and apply GD&T principles – SolidWorks preferred.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret metrology data as well as 3D scan data for both reverse engineering and inspection.
  • Knowledge of various engineering and manufacturing processes.
  • Capable in solving highly complex issues through technical insight and collaboration with companywide and / or industry peers.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills necessary to drive and motivate the team to set priorities and meet goals and objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills, demonstrating sensitivity to customer needs and ability to work effectively when managing competing project priorities.
  • Ability to hire, train and motivate new talent.


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering discipline.  
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience preferred with previous people leadership experience; will consider experience to include advanced engineering degrees.
  • Experience in a fast paced, cross-functional environment a plus.
