Job Summary

Dorman is seeking a Product Engineer to join our Chassis Business Unit. As a Product Engineer on the Chassis team, you will implement and coordinate a variety of engineering projects that will support the development and improvement of our Chassis products. Additional responsibilities include the measurement, evaluation and documentation of product characteristics with respect to function, reliability, and quality. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of automotive steering and suspensions system parts and designs. We are seeking an engineer who can think outside the box and use creative methods to solve problems and develop new solutions. This is role is onsite in our corporate headquarters in suburban Philadelphia (Colmar, PA) Monday through Thursday with the ability to work offsite on Fridays. 

Primary Duties

  • Develop automotive components ensuring compatibility with original equipment and industry standard specifications.
  • Reverse engineer or improve upon designs leveraging 3D scanning, CMM data, functional benchmarking, and material analysis. 
  • Determine project documentation and validation requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Utilize AIAG standards for production approval such as: PPAP, DFMEA, DRD, DVP, etc.
  • Create, review, and revise engineering drawings, technician installation guides, and warehouse inspection instructions.
  • Inspect first article samples and review supplier documentation to determine if design meets functional, reliability, and quality requirements.
  • Communicate with global suppliers on design and manufacturing to maintain quality control throughout the production process.
  • Collaborate with cross functional departments such as product, supply chain, and quality to ensure successful product launches.
     

Qualifications

  • Reverse engineering or product development experience
  • Understanding of SolidWorks or other CAD software
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint 
  • Understanding of automotive steering and suspensions system parts and designs
  • Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes used in automotive steering and suspension components
  • Hands on experience servicing automotive steering and suspensions systems is a plus
  • Understanding of manufacturing capabilities, i.e. machining, stamping, casting, injection molding and electronics assembly
  • Experience in cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of GD&T drafting techniques preferred
  • Basic knowledge of automotive mechanical and electrical systems preferred
  • Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach, swivel, carry items from one location to another, and speak and actively listen. Noise level is usually moderate.
     

Education / Experience

  • Technical degree (BS) in mechanical engineering with 3+ years of experience; or
  • Associate degree with 5+ years of experience
  • Consideration will be given to recent graduates with demonstrated chassis related knowledge / experience for an Associate level role

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $76,200.00 to $111,900.00. This role is also eligible for a bonus. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will depend on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal pay equity. Compensation decisions are made based on the specific facts and circumstances of each role and candidate.
