Job Summary
Responsible for designing and developing high-quality PCB layouts for a wide range of automotive electronics products, including powertrain systems, body electronics, climate control, driver information systems, safety systems, ATEs, and internal tools. Ensures compliance with automotive and IPC standards while incorporating design considerations for signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC, thermal performance, and manufacturability.
Primary Duties
- Understand and translate system and hardware requirements into effective PCB design solutions.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers during schematic reviews to ensure layout feasibility and optimization.
- Design multi-layer PCB layouts considering signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), EMI/EMC, and thermal constraints.
- Perform component placement, routing, stack-up definition, and layout optimization for high-performance and cost-effective designs.
- Conduct PCB design rule checks (DRC) and ensure compliance with IPC and automotive standards.
- Generate and manage PCB fabrication outputs, including Gerber files, ODB++, drill files, and assembly documentation.
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
- Support prototype builds, board bring-up and debugging activities.
- Maintain and develop PCB footprint libraries and design standards.
- Perform design reviews and resolve layout-related technical issues.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, mechanical) to ensure timely project delivery.
- Participate in technical discussions and project reviews with global teams.
- Support PCB rework activities, including soldering, desoldering, and component-level modifications when required.
Preferred Technical Competencies:
- High-speed PCB design
- Power electronics layout techniques
- EMI/EMC compliant PCB design
- RF PCB layout and antenna considerations
- A good understanding of hardware design concepts (schematic design, component selection, and circuit behaviour) is highly preferable
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Proficient in PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD PCB Designer, or equivalent
- Strong experience in multi-layer PCB design, including high-speed and mixed-signal boards
- Solid understanding of SI/PI, EMI/EMC, grounding, shielding, and thermal management techniques
- Experience with DC-DC converters, LDO layouts, and power distribution design
- Familiarity with analog and mixed-signal layouts (Op-Amps, ADC/DAC, etc.)
- Knowledge of automotive electronics design requirements is highly preferred
- Experience with communication interfaces layout (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, LIN, RS232, RS485)
- Understanding of stack-up design, controlled impedance routing, and differential pair routing
- Experience in DFM, DFA, and working with PCB fabrication/assembly vendors
- Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-2221, IPC-7351, etc.)
- Exposure to DFMEA, reliability considerations, and design validation processes
- Hands-on experience with lab tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers for debugging
- Strong documentation and reporting skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel
- Experience with version control/configuration management systems
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Automotive Electronics Product Development
