Job Summary
As a Senior Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing packaging solutions specifically for automotive products. Your role will involve ensuring that packaging meets both functional and aesthetic requirements while adhering to industry standards and regulations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, sourcing and manufacturing operations, to create innovative, highly efficient packaging solutions that enhance efficiency, ensure safety and promote company goals.
This is role is onsite in our corporate headquarters in suburban Philadelphia (Colmar, PA) Monday through Thursday with the ability to work offsite on Fridays.
Primary Duties
- Design and develop packaging systems, within product team budgetary constraints, that enhance product protection and presentation. Includes primary, secondary and tertiary packaging solutions.
- Research new packaging technologies, materials, trends, and automation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate packaging solutions into existing production lines.
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost analysis for new packaging projects. Includes material selection (plastics, paper, metals and sustainable alternatives).
- Utilize SolidWorks for 3D modeling of packaging designs and prototypes.
- Implement GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles in packaging design to ensure precision.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISTA, ASTM, ISO)
- Troubleshoot packaging failures and implement corrective actions internally or with supplier partners.
- Collaborate with Marketing on branding.
- Oversee and take responsibility of project scheduling to ensure timely completion of packaging initiatives.
- Work with robotics and CAM programming to automate packaging processes where applicable.
- Provide technical support during the assembly of packaging equipment on the production floor.
- Continuously evaluate and improve existing packaging processes for efficiency and sustainability.
- Work together with contract manufacturing sites and our global team on packaging solutions.
- Collaborate with Procurement to continuously evaluate and improve supplier partners.
- Minimum of 20% travel to distribution centers and/or manufacturing locations
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in industrial equipment operation.
- Familiarity with assembly line processes and optimization techniques.
- Experience with project scheduling tools and methodologies.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software for design purposes.
- Knowledge of robotics applications in packaging is a plus.
- Understanding of CAM programming principles is advantageous.
- Packaging Engineer Certification a plus
Education / Experience

Minimum 6 years’ experience with technical degree (BS) in engineering or equivalent

Proven experience in packaging engineering or a similar role within a manufacturing environment

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $92,700.00 to $138,000.00. This role is also eligible for a bonus. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will depend on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal pay equity. Compensation decisions are made based on the specific facts and circumstances of each role and candidate.
