JOB SUMMARY:
Supervises and coordinates activities of the Shipping Department by performing the following duties.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES (5-7 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES)
•    Responsible for managing the Shipping department and Group Leads who oversee contributors in the Shipping area.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.  Also directly supervises non-supervisory employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training contributors; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining contributors; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
•    Supervise a safe work environment that ensures compliance to regulations and meets facility safety goals
•    Utilize lean manufacturing principals to identify and implement cost, quality and safety improvements.
•    Coordinate with Materials Management on the scheduled allocations of item availability to ensure fill rate goals are achieved.
•    Develop schedules for daily activities through report out to meet and or exceed service level agreement.
•    Interpret and review Vendor Agreement requirements. Identify gaps in the current process for updates and process change.  
•    Work with department heads in coordinating the flow of SOP as well as group share.
•    Confer with Customer Service and Sales to ensure our customer’s needs are fully satisfied.
•    Assure that a level of performance accuracy is attained in the execution of shipping operations to ensure proper customer services are met.
•    Study shipping schedules and estimate employee hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
•    Track and maintain the department’s performance records (productivity, accuracy, housekeeping, and procedural) to be covered weekly with subordinates.
•    Interpret company policies to employees and enforce safety regulations.
•    Establish or adjust work procedures to meet shipping schedules.
•    Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product shipped to our customers.
•    Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of entire operation, department, or subordinates.
•    Analyze and resolve work problems or assist employees in solving work problems.
•    Select and develop staff for the department including Group Leads and Clerks to assist with initiatives.
•    Initiate or suggest plans to motivate contributors to achieve work goals.
•    Promote and encourage change by driving continuous improvement efforts to improve safety, productivity, accuracy, and process flows.
•    Lead continuous improvement projects or Lean events that support annual goals for productivity, service, cost control and work environment improvements.
•    Support departmental budgetary goals in expense related areas.  
•    Other duties as assigned 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, vendors, or contributors of the organization.
•    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
•    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
•    Physical Requirement: Capability to lift 50 pounds. 
•    Working Conditions: Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The contributor frequently is required to sit and climb or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE:
•    Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
